Modern Slavery Statement
Modern Slavery Statement for Man and a Van Hackney
This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the steps taken by Man and a Van Hackney to prevent modern slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chains. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all business relationships and to implementing effective systems and controls to ensure modern slavery is not taking place anywhere in our business or in any of our supply chains.
Our Business and Supply Chain
Man and a Van Hackney provides local and regional transport, removals, and associated services. Our activities rely on a network of drivers, vehicle providers, fuel suppliers, equipment suppliers, and other service partners. We recognise that risks can arise at multiple points in our supply chain, particularly where temporary labour, logistics services, or low-margin subcontracting are involved.
Zero-Tolerance Policy on Modern Slavery
We operate a strict zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, and child labour. This applies to every aspect of our business and to all parties who work with us or on our behalf. Any supplier or contractor found to be involved in modern slavery will face immediate review, potential suspension, or termination of contract, subject to applicable laws and contractual obligations.
All staff, including managers, drivers, and support teams, are expected to uphold this policy and to act immediately if they suspect that any person is being exploited or coerced. We strive to foster a culture where ethical conduct is central to our decision making and where human rights are respected and protected.
Supplier Standards and Due Diligence
We aim to work only with suppliers and contractors who share our commitment to preventing modern slavery. As part of our supplier onboarding and renewal processes, we assess the ethical standards, labour practices, and compliance history of our partners. This includes requesting information on their policies, workforce arrangements, use of subcontractors, and any relevant incidents or investigations.
Where we identify a higher risk, we may impose additional conditions on the supplier, such as providing written confirmations of compliance, evidence of staff training, or explanations of how they monitor their own supply chains. We reserve the right to decline or discontinue relationships with suppliers who are unwilling or unable to meet our standards.
Supplier Audits and Monitoring
To reinforce our expectations, we conduct proportionate supplier audits and monitoring activities. These may include document reviews, site visits where feasible, and periodic reassessment of risk based on geography, type of service, and labour intensity. Our audits focus on working conditions, recruitment practices, wage compliance, freedom of movement, and the presence of any indicators of forced or bonded labour.
If an audit or review raises concerns, we will investigate promptly and, where appropriate, agree a corrective action plan with the supplier. Serious or unresolved issues can result in the suspension or termination of the business relationship.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
We encourage all employees, contractors, suppliers, and members of the public to report any concerns about modern slavery or unethical labour practices connected with our operations or supply chain. Concerns can be raised through line managers, senior management, or other established reporting channels within the business.
Reports can be made confidentially, and we do not tolerate victimisation or retaliation against anyone who raises concerns in good faith. All reports will be treated seriously, reviewed promptly, and investigated where appropriate. When required, we will cooperate with law enforcement and relevant authorities.
Training and Awareness
We are committed to increasing awareness of modern slavery risks among our staff and key suppliers. Training and guidance are provided to managers and staff involved in procurement, recruitment, and supplier management so they can recognise signs of exploitation and know how to respond. We keep our internal materials under review to reflect evolving best practice and legal requirements.
Annual Review and Continuous Improvement
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed annually by the leadership of Man and a Van Hackney. As part of this review, we assess the effectiveness of our policies, audits, training, and reporting mechanisms, and we consider any changes needed to strengthen our approach. We also reflect on lessons learned from incidents or near misses and from feedback received from staff and suppliers.
By maintaining strong governance, transparent reporting, and clear accountability, Man and a Van Hackney aims to continually improve its ability to identify, prevent, and address modern slavery risks within its business and supply chains.
